Recording a course
Walk through capturing the start, gates, and finish for a new course.
Open Road Ace pace-matches against a course you've recorded. The recording captures the start gate, every checkpoint, and the finish — once saved, you (or anyone you share the file with) can race against the rabbit on that course.
Before you drive
Pick your GPS source in Settings and confirm the app is showing samples (see the GPS receiver guide for the three options). Charge your phone — recording uses GPS continuously and a full course can take an hour. If you're recording a class course like BBORR, drive the actual race route — the recording is the geometry the app will pace against.
Recording
From the home screen, tap Record course. Drive to the start, then push the start trigger as you cross the start line. The app captures every GPS sample for the rest of the drive. As you cross each gate or checkpoint, the app marks it automatically. When you cross the finish, push the finish trigger and the recording closes.
After you stop
Name the course and save. The course shows up in the course picker on the home screen. You can edit the name, delete it, or re-record from the course detail screen.
If gates didn't set
Auto-detection occasionally misses a gate when GPS quality is poor (urban canyon, tunnel, indoor near windows). If gates didn't set, the course will still play back but pacing will be against straight-line distance, not segment-by-segment. Re-record under better GPS conditions, or manually mark gates from the course detail screen.
